We continued learning about snow. We talked about what we like to do in the snow
(make snowmen, drink hot chocolate, make snowballs and stay inside!) and what
the characters in our books like to do in the snow (make snow angels, make
footprints, go ice skating, and go sledding).. We read The Mitten, in which a bunch
of animals squeeze into a boy’s brand new, snow-white mitten. The mitten stretches
and stretches but doesn’t break. Finally a mouse squeezes in and causes a bear to
sneeze, which scatters the animals back into the woods. The kids loved hearing about
how the animals squeezed into the mitten even though it seems like there is no space
left. We also sequenced the events of the story. In our small groups, we matched
rhyming word pairs from one of our unit books and played mitten memory.
